Your Connection to Commerce

Top 50 Traits of Great Salespeople #39: Great salespeople value connections with their community as the main aim for commerce.

Great sales people understand that they are in the people business, not in the product business. Your intention behind every action taken should be focused on people (who you’re pitching to, who you think needs the benefits of your products and service).

When you work for the greater purpose of providing service or products to help people, you’re building your community. When you’re building community, you’re setting your business up for success—in other words, your products will sell.

We all remember the movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” In the end, it wasn’t the business, but the community that George connected with throughout his life that made the most impact.

When you’re talking to someone, think about what you can do to help this person be a part of your community. Build them up and you’ll find that you’re building yourself up at the same time. It’s a win-win situation.
