What’s the Number One Reason for Failing?

Wayne Gretzky is famous for having said, “You miss 100% of the shot’s you don’t take.”

Closing isn’t limited to just the “deal.” The single biggest reason for not closing a deal is you never took the shot. And how does that translate into the rest of your life? What else are you not “closing?” You never tried, never attempted and are probably going through life missing out on all things that should be yours. I know there’s hundreds of reasons you come up with for the reason for this but the bottom line is if you don’t ask then you won’t receive. If you don’t turn off that lame program on TV you’ve been wasting half your life watching and get up off the couch to swing the bat, you’ll never have a chance to hit the ball out of the park.

What’s the real reason you’re not taking the shot or swinging the bat? That question you probably already know the answer to. For many it’s a fear of the word “no.” But the fear of rejection never stopped you when you were a kid. What happened, why are you letting it stop you now? Maybe it came about from being surrounded by adults when you were growing up or the office supervisor at your last job. Whatever the reason, if “no” is your problem, then the rest of your time spent on this planet is going to be a bumpy ride for you. Getting yourself back to where “no” was an obstacle and not a stopping point, like it is now, will require practice and action.

I am here to warn you that it is high time you pushed yourself to take the shots you’ve been talking yourself out of taking. It’s time to show up. It’s time to be willing to fail and get yourself some “no’s” chalked up on the scoreboard. The great thing about getting enough “no’s” is that it means that you are on your way to getting a “yes”. Don’t be surprised though if once you take the leap or the shot, how many times you get a “yes” simply because you asked when all the others did not.
