Hollywood Strike

The massive Hollywood writers’ strike caused a major disruption in Tinseltown. Now that the parties have agreed, it’s lights, camera, action. However, this months-long shutdown may have cost them more than just time. More specifically, experts predict it could cost them as much as $1 BILLION…

Hollywood Strike Delayed Big Money-Makers…

For five months, writers picketed against the Alliance of Motion Pictures and Television Producers…

The issue?

Using AI in scriptwriting.

The Writers Guild of America finally struck a deal with AMPTP on Sep 27, 2023, and returned to work shortly after. Nonetheless, the movie business is still a business…

AND TIME IS MONEY!

According to movie industry analyst, Eric Wold, domestic box office sales will suffer in the next two years.

Wold expects these results:

  • $8.6 billion as opposed to $9.6 billion in 2024
  • $9.92 billion in contrast to $10.29 billion in 2025

The Hollywood strike pushed back the release of blockbusters like the live action, “Snow White,” and “Dune: Part Two.”

The expert analyst said that he took that into account with his predictions.

“We feel that we are taking a more conservative approach to our updated 2025 industry box office projection — with an argument that we could have at least maintained, if not increased, our prior projection given the number of high-profile films moved into that year.”

Well, that only supports what Grant says…

Despite these forecasts, movie producers are far from being underdogs. Especially when you consider these other promising statistics…

The Film Industry May Still Get a Happy Ending

The good news is that numbers reflect people are still excited about going out to theaters.

In fact, Eric Wolt believes the effects of the Hollywood strike will not create a series of bad sequels…

“With our view that moviegoing demand remains strong in the post-pandemic era and that a hiccup in 2024 is only a reflection of strike-driven production delays, we remain positive on the outlook for the industry.”

Ultimately, it seems that AI and time can’t dull our fascination with film. But whether those postponed movies were worth the wait, is going to be a matter of opinion…
