Dominate in December!

There’s just 2 weeks left before 2014. Decide you want to end the year strong, make a plan and commit to it. This is a great time of year to dominate. People are preoccupied with holiday plans and are easing up. Take advantage!

What are some immediate ways you can dominate your space? Can you be the leader in amount of deals closed? Calls completed? Leads generated? Why not shoot for all of these and watch how you get out in front and maintain the pace while others lag behind.

It’s very important to understand that there's a very distinct difference between competition and domination. Competition is a struggle in pursuit of a goal. Domination is to influence and control everything around you. Do you want to struggle and pursue or do you want to influence and control? Here are two key ways to shift towards domination:

1. Do What Others Won't Do

When you seek to dominate a sector, start with something you know you can own. The great Jack Welch is famous for saying, “If you don't have a competitive advantage, don't compete." Find a way to dominate a space and be original. How? Make a list of what your competitors aren't doing and then do those exact things. Are they using social media? How effective and consistent are they in promoting themselves? Again, look for ways in which they are easing up. Then, slip in and take the lead.

2. Become An Expert and Promote Yourself!

Another way to dominate is to become the known expert in your space. My goal is to be the person people automatically think of when “sales training” is mentioned. What do people come to you for more than anyone else? What expertise do you have that is well respected and trusted? Promote it! Promote what you know and do it for free from the palm of your hand via social media. Four years ago I didn’t have a Twitter account, but once I created one, I decided to own the space for sales and business advice. About 37,000 tweets later, I have close to 250,000 followers and a number of social media experts have ranked me #1 sales coach ( @GrantCardone) to follow on Twitter. End the year making the shift towards domination and get a huge lead over others who have put themselves on holiday cruise control. When 2014 starts you’ll be in a better position to accomplish the new goals set for the year ahead. You got this! Be great!

I’m using the word “dominate” today….it’s super powerful. I came out of the car biz (where I first saw one of your presentations) and now have a fast growing scuba business in an industry that has had 30% of the stores close in the last decade. I DOMINATE in one small piece of my business…but the other areas are perfectly capable of dominating the competition as well…time to lay out my battle plan and do it!
